Cara de Güey

2025

Mexico City

A collection of textile and ceramic works centered around migration, identity, culture, and self-actualization.

Its started off as an interest in a mask, upon analyzing and researching I began to rediscover my culture and myself. 2025 I took a leap of faith and self deported from Los Angeles back to my birth place in Mexico City. The move it self opened up a whole new world. As an artist its only normal to express and self reflect. I found my self in a very difficult transformative moment in my life. The mask concept allowed me to process through practice. Asking myself questions like who am i?, who do i want to be?, what will i do to get there?

The collection expanded and I found new connections but ultimately it about coming back. I graduated high-school 2014. Back then I wasn’t able to got to college because of money and immigration status. So I learned to hustle screen printed tee-shirts. It was the first time I realized that art can be a business. Tee shirts pretty much carried my whole art career until now, as I moved into design I wanted to step away from clothing because “Designers don’t make merch” I’m not sure where I got that idea, maybe I just wanted to be seen more than just a screen-printer, I wanted the world to know I had more to offer. So I came back and now we offer merch again, as homage to the old engine.
